| Biography |
Dr. Elara Vance was a rising star in her field, respected and focused, but also secretly resentful of the deep-sea research company she worked for. Her company, Triton Global, prioritized profits over ecological safety, pushing her to use increasingly dangerous and untested mutagens in her research on a rare, intelligent thermal vent organism. The organism, dubbed 'Aqueous', was thought to have unique genetic properties. |
The accident occurred when a rogue pressure surge, caused by faulty equipment she had repeatedly warned her superiors about, triggered a chain reaction. A containment field failed, causing Elara to be hit by a concentrated blast of the mutagen and the organism itself, fusing them on a sub-molecular level. Her body was fundamentally altered. She didn't drown, but rather experienced a harrowing moment of dissolution and reformation, her consciousness stretching across a fluid form before collapsing back into a human shape. Thereafter, she could change back and forth between her solid form and a liquid form. |
However, Dr. Vance's mind was altered, her perspective influenced by the strange organism she merged with to hate meddling groundlings that exploit and pollute the waters of the world. Her first acts as Tideripper targeted Triton Global's operations, but it wasn't long before she turned her attention to other polluters. |
| Capabilities and Motivations |
Tideripper is a powerful hybrid organism, able to change her body between solid, semi-liquid, and liquid. In addition to being intangible while fluid, heal herself by merging with liquids, reshape her body while liquid -- she can even form extra liquid limbs in a variety of shapes. She can also mentally control liquids, via hydrokinesis. |
Originally, Tideripper sought to (violently) protect marine ecosystems. Now, she sees the surface world as a threat to her new aquatic existence. She resents humanity for the accident that warped her, and the continued exploitation and pollution of the world's oceans. |
