The relationship with his daughter was a disgrace in the grandfather's eyes, a transgression that would not be tolerated. The liaison ultimately led to his father's murder at the hands of the grandfather's Yakuza contacts, his mother's complete disownment, and the twins' existence being erased from the family's history. These formative tragedies became the catalyst for Ren's obsession with technology, a way to build a reality where he could reclaim what was taken from him. Growing up rough and bitter, Ren became fueled by a desperate need for validation. Eventually, he put himself through engineering college, excelling in the field of theoretical physics and advanced technology.
