| Biography |
An American-born mutant named Elias Thorne, who would later become Exigent, was raised in a quiet suburban town in the 1980s, where he experienced a comfortable, almost idyllic childhood. However, his seemingly ordinary life was shattered by the latent manifestation of his mutant abilities during his teens. A catastrophic and uncontrolled release of his powers during a school event led to significant destruction and exposed him to public scrutiny and terror. The incident drew unwanted attention from a nascent government agency tasked with 'monitoring' the new wave of mutants. Elias's radicalization stemmed from this personal betrayal: the community he believed to be safe turned on him in an instant, and the government that was supposed to protect him instead marked him as a threat. |
As an adult, Thorne's disillusionment with society grew believing that humanity would inevitably turn against mutants, but with a distinctly American twist: a deep-seated distrust of institutions and authority. He witnessed firsthand how his own country, a beacon of liberty, was quick to vilify and demonize its own superpowered citizens for things beyond their control. This trauma, combined with his formidable powers, led him to adopt the mantle of 'Exigent'—a name signifying his belief that the mutant race was in a state of urgent crisis, with humanity representing an existential threat. He began seeking out other mutants who had been marginalized and rejected, forming a small but dedicated cell of militants united by their shared experiences of fear, oppression, and alienation. |
Exigent’s philosophy is a twisted reflection of the American Dream, believing that mutants are the next step in evolution, the new 'shining city on a hill,' and that a new, stronger society can only be built from the ashes of the old. He is not simply a supremacist seeking to rule, but a militant revolutionary fighting for a new world order where his people are safe and dominant, no matter the cost. The black and purple costume, cloak, and intimidating helmet are more than just a disguise; they are a symbol of his radical ideology and his rejection of the society that betrayed him. His methods, though extreme, are born from the conviction that humanity's fear will always lead to violence, and that preemptive force is the only way to ensure the future of mutantkind. |
| Capabilities and Motivations |
Exigent is a very powerful mutant with impressive physiological enhancements, comprehensive energy absorption abilities, and signature eyebeams of black energy that he can even bend and reroute mid-blast. He also has heightened vision, able to see energy signatures, and through objects. He can also see most illusions and forms of invisibility, and the difference between mutants and non-mutants. |
Exigent doesn't just fight heroes, he orates pro-mutant rhetoric, decries anti-mutant atrocities, and tries to turn mutants to 'the great cause' which presents challenges that can be interacted with. To reduce his status, opponents can overcome his rhetorical challenges by fact-checking them or mounting their own convincing counter-arguments encouraging co-existence or less harsh strategies. Each success reduces Exigent's status by one die size, but he can remove successes using Homosuperior, restoring his status by one die size. |
