| Biography |
Chad 'The Machine' Kelly began his journey not as a villain, but as a down-on-his-luck construction contractor in Los Angeles. His life took a tragic turn after a workplace accident left his right hand crushed, leading to loss of work while recovering from multiple surgeries, medical expenses, and the eventual loss of his home and small business. Destitute and desperate, he was a perfect victim for SNAKE. Chad was among several unfortunates abducted from a day labor camp and taken to a hidden desert laboratory for cruel and unethical experiments, all under the false promise of work. |
During SNAKE's experiments, Chad underwent a brutal transformation that granted him immense superhuman resilience and dexterity, far exceeding that of a normal human. Most test subjects died, but Chad's rugged constitution allowed him to survive, albeit forever changed. A key part of the procedure completely severed his ability to feel pain, replacing his sense of touch with a cold numbness that mirrored the emotional emptiness the world had inflicted upon him. The experiments also gave him a potent regenerative ability, though it was imperfect; while he could regrow limbs and organs, his body retained the gruesome scarring of past traumas, a permanent, physical record of his suffering. |
Trained as a metahuman enforcer by SNAKE, Chad appeared to be a loyal weapon. However, he secretly harbored a profound hatred for the organization that had turned him into a monster. This resentment finally boiled over during his first mission, an attack on a Yakuza-owned corporation. In a moment of rebellion, he turned on his SNAKE handlers and aided the Yakuza, driving off his former masters. For years, he worked for the Yakuza before striking out on his own as a freelance mercenary, becoming a ruthless and highly sought-after thug-for-hire, selling his formidable skills to the highest bidder in the super-powered underworld. |
After a brief stint in jail, during which he earned a business degree, Chad decided to apply his intelligence to his criminal career. He founded Enforcers Inc., a consultancy firm that professionalized the mercenary business by acting as a middleman for powered thugs and muscle-for-hire. The company offers a 'guild' arrangement to its associates, ensuring fair pay and enforcing employment policies through threats of retaliation. For clients, it offers vetted, reliable talent with guaranteed results, all of which has allowed the firm to grow into a substantial and difficult-to-dismantle criminal enterprise that successfully evades law enforcement and superhero interference through both legal and illegal tactics. |
| Capabilities and Motivations |
Chad 'The Machine' Kelly possesses a devastating combination of superhuman resilience and offensive prowess, stemming from his complete inability to feel pain. His metahuman physique grants him extreme durability and dexterity, allowing him to absorb massive amounts of punishment without flinching while delivering bone-crushing blows. This physical hardiness is complemented by a powerful, imperfect regenerative healing factor, which can regrow lost limbs and organs but leaves behind grotesque scarring as a permanent testament to past injuries. Chad's dangerousness is further amplified by his extreme skill as a fighter, a deadly combination of his imperviousness to pain and combat training, making him an unstoppable force that will only cease fighting upon death. |
His future goals for Enforcers Inc. are purely pragmatic and focused on solidifying and expanding the company, making connections, and talent acquistion. He is also laser focused on maintaining and improving the legitimate front of the company, which provides the necessary legal framework and cover for the off-books supervillainy for hire side of things where the real money is made. He protects his business interests, builds relationships, and makes deals with the same ruthless efficiency as he does everything else. |
