| Esvel Bowen is a fair skinned woman with piercing light grey eyes, raven black hair, stern but pretty in an unforgiving way. Always alert, always seeking an advantage. Her focus is straightforward: Survival First, Revenge Second, Then Victory. |
| Biography |
She was one of the last survivors of the Barons of the Pomarj. In her youth, her people were overwhelmed and slaughtered by a horde of evil orcs, goblins, and other such scum. Her father - one of the ruling Barons - and her brother perished in a heroic last defense of the Bowen Barony. An elite guard spirited away some of the women and children, including Esvel, to a hidden shrine to the earth goddess Ulaa that the Bowen family had protected for over a century. |
Growing to adulthood quickly, Esvel learned the way of the blade from those brave warriors, and the way of Ulaa from the small cadre of priests and paladins who tended the shrine. She eventually took her place as the leader of her remaining people, and gathered other survivors and fellow followers to her flag. She guided her grim band raiding and pillaging the evil occupiers of her ancestral lands, and learned well to attack with everything you have, when the time is right and preferably by surprise, but not at the cost of survival. With time she became a chosen paragon of Ulaa and was granted the great weapon Toilgifter, a spiked warhammer of incredible power that is able to cleave earth, metal, and stone with impunity...and that is the least of its powers. |
However, with time her enemies discovered the location of Ulaa's shrine, and Esvel's safe haven was safe no longer. A horde soon overran and pillaged what remained, and though Esvel and her band fought with great bravery and accounted well for themselves, in the end they were all slain and the shrine was defiled. |
But that was not the end for Esvel. She awoke in a strange other world, the Nornlands, and was told by the three sisters that she had a great destiny to fulfill. So great not even death can permanently claim her until it is fulfilled. In typical fashion, the Norns would not talk straight about the nature of Esvel's destiny...apparently part of the gig is figuring out what fate has in store for her. |
| Capabilities and Motivations |
The Paragon of Ulaa is a powerful warrior, adept with all ancient weapons. She is strong, a skilled raider and ambusher, tactically astute, and fearsome to behold in battle. She wears a magical suit of metal armor, bears a magical shield with an oak tree emblazoned upon it, and wields the holy spiked warhammer known as Toilgifter. This powerful weapon is also a tool, blessed by Ulaa, able to shatter stone, open or close tunnels, and cause localized tremors. |
Esvel has the favor of a powerful earth goddess and of the Norns, which sometimes convey mystical benefits. All in all, she is a very potent combatant and is easily capable of going toe to toe with most superhumans. |
