John Wrath is a stocky, grizzled man who appears to be in his early 40's despite being nearly a century old. He has a knife or sword scar down the left side of his face through his eye socket, but wont talk about the injury. In the place of a normal eye he has a sleek but obviously technological cybereye, with a variety of useful functions. Wrath usually wears one of an assortment of armored fighting outfits, kitted with tactical gear, and festooned with various weapons. Most notably his favorite custom heavy pistols and sword, but certainly not limited to just those. All of his weapons and gadgets are custom jobs; Wrath's got a guy on the inside that keeps him hooked up with R&D toys for old times sake.
He's almost always either smoking or chewing on a stogey and smells like a ripe cigar, Old Spice, and testosterone. He is a 'Man of Action', and is always on his toes bristling with a visible readiness to leap into danger.
Biography
Wrath has a (very) long career. His military service started in the Korean War where he served with distinction. He later led the Growling Recondos in Vietnam, a LRRP that did dirty deeds for the CIA that still officially never happened. Subsequently, he got out of the regular military and worked for the CIA directly during the Cold War. He did all sorts of things during that time, almost all of it still classified.
His successes and biological compatibility led to Wrath being given the opportunity, along with some others who fit a profile, to be subjected to a new super soldier process a certain government think tank had worked up that had promising potential. Wrath agreed, and he was one of the very few successes. He became a significant tool of the state after that, used for the most critical of missions 'in the National Interest'.
Over the years, the others of his cohort died under various circumstances, and other assets came on line. But Wrath continued to thrive. He was a go-to guy known by name to a succession of presidents and policy makers. He was often called 'Old Reliable' behind closed doors. 'Send In That Old Warhorse, Wrath', was often heard. Some said, 'They Don't Make Em Like That Anymore'. Things like that. He was valued, the years rolled on, and Wrath kept going strong.
But, for every time there is a season. As the decades passed, John's old school hard assery and general approach to things slowly fell out of sync with shifting sentiments and the way the new world worked in general. The Cold War era apparatus that Wrath was very much a part of just aged out. Eventually, Wrath was forced to retire. Officially, his government service far exceeded legal limits. Unofficially, he was simply a relic of a bygone era that no longer fit the mould.
Wrath did not go gently into the long good night, however. He immediately took up heroing as a civilian, hypothetically solo but in practice as a member of the Millennial Men. Difficult to get along with, and uniquely over the top, Wrath's inexplicable ability to triumph over all kinds of adversity ensures that he's a load bearing part of the team. Despite his frequent claims that he's definitely not on the team, that he works alone, and that the other MillMen just keep following him around for some reason.
Capabilities and Motivations
Wrath is an old school super soldier. With many years of special forces and espionage successes on the books, he was subjected to a treatment process that killed most recipients outright. Wrath got all the usual sort of super soldier enhancements, and his aging process was arrested. Despite lots of hard years, he hasn't really aged much since he got off the operating table.
Putting his moderately enhanced physiology aside, Wrath is an incredibly effective covert operator, martial artist, and all around bad ass. He's able to fight many opponents simultaneously, and thrives in chaotic situations. At some point he lost an eye and had a bionic replacement installed, which was periodically upgraded over the years as technology improved. He also carries a variety of custom weapons, superspy gadgets, and miscellaneous items that are sometimes useful. Historically, he's also had other notable gear such as a flying car, a force field generating belt, and other similar super-swag, but post-retirement he doesn't have access to that kind of primo stuff anymore. He'll bitch about it at great length if given half a chance, so its best to not remind him. He also has no qualms about helping himself to whatever kit he might come across or liberate from the clutches of enemies.
