Physical Attributes
Gender: M Age: 51 Height: 6'2'' Weight: 220lbs
Eyes: Blue Hair: Black Skin: Tanned Build: Physical Phenom
Dashingly handsome, with short windblown black hair and a stern face. Despite being in his 50's, looks like a man in his prime with no signs of aging. Extremely intense, and constantly in a hurry to do everything. Speaks extremely quickly, the words running together. Has a difficult time being patient with normal speed people.
Hype has worn many costumes over the years, but they have all been mostly black body suits with red trim and accents. His identity became known a long time ago, but he still often wears a domino mask out of habit or nostalgia or perhaps just preference. It doesn't really matter though; he's usually moving so fast all most people can register is the barest flicker of black and red. Then he's gone. More importantly, his costumes are professionally made of super materials able to withstand the absurd amount of friction and windshear Hype's speed subjects them to.
Biography
Hype has been a 'professional superhero' since he turned 18. He served with NewGen, a large and highly publicized team active in the south during the 90's. However, after a dramatic series of successes and setbacks, and a rollercoaster ride of interpersonal issues, NewGen disbanded when Hype was in his mid 20's. Hype roamed the nation for a bit, fighting crime all over the place, but ended up in Millennium City after the Champions disappeared. There he fought several villains, teamed up with Gravitic, Agent X, and War-Man and spurred the formal founding of the Millennial Men. In conjunction with Gravitic, Hype extended an open invitation to several other heroes who were making names for themselves.
Subsequently, the MillMen did come together. The initial roster formed and had early successes. However, after getting involuntarily retired from PRIMUS, John Wrath showed up while the MillMen were pursuing Papa Zombie. Wrath and Hype did not hit it off, to say the least, and the easily exasperated Hype departed the team he himself founded. But not permanently. Over the subsequent years the MillMen had a wildly oscillating roster and Hype rejoined and left multiple times. Even when not officially active, he would still assist the team from time to time and vice versa.
Oddly, Hype prefers to be on a team with dependable allies, but is also basically a loner and finds it difficult to socialize and integrate with teammates. Thus he vascilates between joining up and going off on his own, over and over again. His lack of patience and on the job 24-7 mentality ensures he has few friends. Many respect Hype for his capabilities and his deeds, but few enjoy spending time around him.
Hype is one of the premier speedsters of the world. He pays his bills by endorsing NAR-COLA brand sodas and energy drinks, and has appeared in commercials and ad campaigns for many years. Thus he's very well known, and recognizable. However, he's also been mired in controversy from time to time due to collateral damage or due to reactions from the public when news cameras film him in action and the terrifying scope of his powers are televised. It is quite disturbing to consider what would happen if Hype ever turned villain.
Luckily, he's been a dedicated and literally tireless true blue superhero for decades. He spends about 23 hours a day patrolling nonstop, and handles dozens of minor crimes and situations before anyone else even knows that there is a problem. Needing less than an hour of sleep per day, and able to sustain himself on the energy he himself generates, Hype is damn near a perpetual motion machine.
Capabilities and Motivations
Hype is a mutant with the ability to move at incredibly high speeds. Possessing a superhuman metabolism and advanced physiology, his body and mind are accelerated across the board, his reflexes are unbelievably fast, and he even heals incredibly fast. But beyond that, he has a subconscious ability to absorb and transduce kinetic energy directly from the environment and his own movement. This allows him to reach extreme speeds and to both absorb and impart vast amounts of force. In combination, Hype is capable of superhuman feats of agility, strength, and stamina, and can also withstand extreme impact, friction, and velocity without harm to himself.
Hype will usually use his speed as a weapon, dashing in and out of a fight, taking advantage of changing combat situations, attacking foes from behind, befuddling enemies with his ability to weave through their ranks with seeming impunity, and remaining in constant motion. However occasionally Hype will stop moving and fight an opponent toe to toe. His incredible strength, reaction time, and agility serves him well in such occasions and he is a formidable melee opponent.
