| A sturdily built bald man with light blue skin and merry eyes. Cryolysis has worn many costumes over the years, but they are usually white or blue to varying degrees, and usually lightly armored. He does not maintain a civilian identity and is virtually never dressed as a normal person...what's the point? The blue skin and bubble of intense cold that surrounds Cryolysis makes it basically impossible to blend in, so he just doesn't bother. |
| Biography |
Cryolysis has gone by different names. He got his start as Iceblue, fighting street gangs and gritty urban crime but eventually got in over his head. Luckily he was saved by another mutant crime fighter -- Hype, the Hyperaccelerated Man -- and that initial team up became the start of a very long professional collaboration. Soon after, he changed his hero name to Hypothermic for the Hype / Hypo assonance and built up his cred under that moniker. |
At Hype's urging and sponsorship, Hypothermic joined the Millennial Men supergroup and quickly proved to be a powerful addition. Hypo was part of the 'blue team' of the Mill Men, a subgroup of later joins primarily active on the east coast of the US. He was reliable and nearly always ready to go, making him a mainstay. Over the ensuing years Hypothermic has fought more supervillains than he can recall, spent quite a bit of time in the ancient past of an alternate dimension fighting pseudo-Nazis possessed by Cthulu like energy squids, helped fend off several alien invasions and two dimensional incursions, stood firm in the face of supernatural horrors from beyond, disrupted seemingly endless schemes, and has done his part to save the world at least a dozen times...all while somehow managing to retain his rather corny sense of humor. |
Eventually, in middle age, he semi-retired and took it easy for a few years. But he just couldn't resist the lure of the good old days and the joy of using his powers to fight crime. He came back on the scene with a new costume and a new name, Cryolysis, and even a few new jokes. |
Despite his long experience, incredible power, and history of success, Cryolysis still enjoys patrolling the streets for everyday crime like a neophyte or low powered hero, and is famous for inviting old friends to go out and 'patrol' with him to catch up on old times. The surrealism of the likes of Cryolysis and his old bud Hype, or other world-class superheroes like Microwave, or Proto, or Tennebrae and so on taking down street thugs seems to be entirely lost on him. |
| Capabilities and Motivations |
Cryolysis is a mutant with the ability to subconsciously manipulate thermodynamics to create fields of intense cold. He can make ice barriers, patches, makeshift armor, hail, and so on. He can flash freeze things, hurl blasts of cold air that push, slow, and enervate. He can fly around in an atmosphere by manipulating thermals. Basically, if it has something to do with the absence of heat and any side effect thereof, he can do it. |
