Alliage is a petite blonde woman in her 20's or 30's, slim and attractive. She speaks with an accent that is commonly thought to be either French or French-Canadien, but over the years has become acclimated enough to American English to make it less noticeable.
Alliage has worn various costumes over the years, but they have been primarily teal and close fitting. However, by far the most recognizable feature of her look is the four orbs of metal that she bears. There is one each of gold, silver, copper, and dark grey lead. The gold, copper, and leaden orbs typically float around nearby her. The silver orb is usually either attached to her belt or flattened in a sharp disk that Alliage can stand upon to fly around, but it can be made to float around her like the other three. All of the orbs change shape, and she can also cause some or all of them to spread out and coat her in a liquid metal outer skin, offering protection and mass.
Biography
Largely unbeknownst to her Alliage is a scion of a heritage that can trace its roots back into legendary times to the line of Lancelot and the Fisher King Pelles. Ensorcelled to think she was Guinevere, Lancelot lay with Pelle's daughter Elaine and his son Galahad, the greatest knight in all the world, was the result. Galahad grew to surpass all other knights in valor, and ability, even his mighty father, and was prophesied to be the knight who could find the Sangreal, the Holy Grail.
And so he did after a long quest and much peril, accompanied by his companions Percival and Bors, both stalwart knights in their own rights. The Christian monks that recorded the tales of Arthur's times interpreted the idea that Galahad was 'married to the Grail' to mean he spurned the company of women and was chaste, dying a virgin. However this stemmed from their orthodox belief that the Holy Grail was an actual cup. However the Sangreal was in fact a person, a descendant of certain biblical figures. Her name was Viviane, daughter of Merlin's one-time apprentice and bane Nimue. Galahad and Vivane had two children, a boy and a girl, and his boon companions Percival and Bors gathered some lesser knights together to form a secret order to guard their secret and protect the heirs of the Sangreal heritage. Alliage is a modern scion of this line.
Of course, Alliage knew none of this. Her family was humble, hidden in plain sight and invisibly guarded by the secret order of knights through the generations. She grew up normally, though with an uncharacteristic interest in European history and mild woo woo topics such as astrology and tarot, though she quickly discarded each such distraction to move on to the next. She couldn't put it into words exactly, but her subconscious was seeking some kind of real magic, because she had the gift and it needed an outlet.
Eventually Alliage became a medieval scholar and relic restorationist, in demand at many museums in need of her ability to identify and fix up historical items. It was only a matter of time before she came into contact with a set of four metal orbs from a medieval alchemist's collection, which catalyzed with her latent magical power. Thus began her magical journey, and though she eventually learned an eclectic and broad array of esoteric knowledge and power, Alliage's primary focus remains her alchemical orbs which she can cause to do all sorts of surprising and powerful things.
As she was a visiting academic at the Millenium City Museum when she discovered the orbs (or they discovered her perhaps), she soon became involved with the Millennial Men fighting various supernatural threats and soon became a full member. For a few years, Alliage attempted to maintain her secret identity and continue her civilian work, but she struggled to do so as her powers and superheroic responsibilities grew. Eventually, her identity was revealed by the supervillainous witch Talisman, and Alliage gave up on her civilian identity to become a public superhero full time. She was once the charming rookie of the team, but as the years passed she became one of the mainstays, experienced and sought after by younger supers for mentorship and advice on mystical matters.
Capabilities and Motivations
Alliage has a natural and powerful gift for magic. Untutored in any established tradition, Alliage subconsciously expresses her powers via what she calls 'Alchemical Orbs'. She has a vivid memory of having found them in an exhibit, artifacts from an alchemical laboratory. However, her onetime mentor Legend posited that they are not real, her memory is simply an attempt by her rational mind to make sense of her magic, and that Alliage actually just manifests the orbs as an expression of her power. Whichever it may be, it makes no difference to the potency of her magical abilities, and the fluidity with which Alliage is able to apply her magic to situations using the orbs is impressive. Real or figments, they are magical objects that she can reshape, combine, and focus magic through.
The orbs protect Alliage, and can be commanded by her to protect others, and allow her to do a wide variety of alterations, transmutations, and attacks. She is particularly adept at hampering others by changing things into other things, as well as using specific functions of the individual orbs. She can also fly around very nimbly by standing upon the silver orb when it is flattened into a levitating disk, making her surprisingly mobile when she wants to be.
