Rogate Turvoldsen
Height: 6' 6" Hair: Red and White
Weight: 240 lbs Eyes: Blue
Appearance: Rogate is a tall man with a muscular build and and bright, blue eyes. His hair is carrot red with a white streak running down the middle. He carries a longsword and shield into battle.
Personality: Rogate is somewhat more level headed than the most of the Herodi, but that doesn't say a lot. Though no Baresark, Rogate is still quick to jump into battle. He likes to take command of a situation. To him, this often means starting a fight, knowing his companions will get drawn in. Even if the group would prefer a different course of action, Rogate often forces the issue. Herodi's belief in his clan's destiny to rule borders on fanatic, and he is willing to do what is necessary to prove to others that the Herodi should lead the Machtig once again.

Geas: Be not alone when the greatest challenge comes
Quote:"Battle-Borne is but one of three
Ill-chosen he stands the last alive
Death alone his fear and geas
Ever for glory doth he contrive
In new Clan power he believes
But upon his brow doth War arrive"
Background:  Rogate Turvoldsen was born as one of a set of triplets, a particularly rare occurrence. This was seen as a good omen and a sign of prosperity. Sadly, this did not turn out to be the case. “Be not alone when the greatest challenge comes,” was the geas laid on each of the brothers at their birth. One of Rogate’s brothers, Vermogen, was killed by a wild boar as a child, when he wandered alone into the forest. Rogate’s other brother, Ausfall, was killed by an unknown monster that happened upon him while he was traveling, also alone. Because of his geas and these circumstances, Rogate is very wary and uncomfortable when completely alone, though he would never admit to being afraid of it.

Rogate is very protective of his friends, in large part because of the loss of his brothers. He is always prepared to fight in defense of his friends, or even just because of a perceived threat to his friends. His uncanny skill with a sword has helped him when an ordinary man would be in over his head. However, he often assumes his friends are as willing to die for him as his is for them. His quick temper often leads to him, and subsequently his friends, getting into a confrontation that could have otherwise been avoided.

Rogate’s father, Barisch, was known as a great warrior among the Herodi, and was a Huscarl in the service of the Laird, before wounding his leg in battle. He had always planned to teach swordsmanship to his sons. Ausfall and Rogate started to learn from him, but only Rogate finished his training. Rogate practiced constantly, knowing that to fail would mean there was no one to carry on in his father’s footsteps. He has learned well, and has great skill, as well as incredible stamina. Rogate’s unusually thorough training in swordsmanship means he is does not loose his cool completely while in battle. He does not rage or frenzy like so many of his brethren, though he still fights as wildly and fiercely as the rest of them.

Rogate hopes to someday serve in his Laird’s Huscarl, and knows that his great skill can potentially get him there. He has great pride in his clan, given to him by his father, and feels that he can help advance and serve his clan as a Huscarl.

NOTE: Rogate was slain by the Kor-Daen tribe during a mighty battle in the heart of the Kor's own fortress.
Campaign Use: Rogate has a lot of stamina (his Tireless ability) and is capable of great feats of strength. He also has great aim with his sword. His skill, muscle-power, and uncanny acuracy give him the ability to cleave his opponents into pieces.

In the past the Herodi dominated the other Clans for generations, but have since been superceded by less warlike Clans who tired of the continual wars and strife the Herodi preferred to engage in with outsiders and occasionally other Machtig. The Herodi are considered to be very warlike by the other Clans, and it is true that almost all men and many of the women are Thegns. Short on Thralls, the Herodi make heavier use of slaves taken on raids than most of the other Clans. The Herodi lands contain some Ungheuer (monsters), but the Herodi take such great delight in hunting and killing them for sport that most non-human creatures go elsewhere. There are several mines in the Herodi lands, bringing in great wealth. There is also a single old colony of mountain Var living beneath one of the mountains near Caer Coinig, and the Herodi have traded to them for weapons and occasionally armor for centuries. An overwhelming 90% of all Herodi are Barbarians and Rangers. The remainder are composed roughly equally of Druids, Skalds, Sorcerers, Experts, and Commoners.
