Weight: 84 lbs | Eyes: Black
Appearance: A very small, petitie woman (typical of her race), that usually wears a toga-like robe and a hair-piece keeping her coifure in a neat cascade.
Personality: Go forth, do good deeds, bring more people to the worship of the Urzed Pantheon until such a time as she is judged worthy of ascending to the rank of Endra (IN-drah; full priest, in charge of a smaller ziggurat or an assistant to a lower ranked Enza (highest echelon of priest) or Engo (senior priest)).
Quote:"Uguku ag Urzed arilaeme essautu uzune." (ooh-GOO-koo OG ER-zaid ARE-ill-ah-EH-meh ESS-ah-OO-TOO ooze-OO-neh."; roughly translated: I bring to the people the enlightening true word of the Gods; literally "I build a structure to those who will see and hear it a shining edifice of holy catechisms".
Background: The Urzedarek (ER-zeh-DAH-wreck) is the national unified religion of Zadesh and is over 4,000 years old. A form of Anceastor worship, Zadeshi heroes, rulers, and notables as well as some mythological or aggregate characters have been "deified" by the Enza (IN-zah), or top-ranked priests of the Urzedrek over the millenia, which is to say they are added to the catelogue of "dieties", known as the Roll of Urzed. Currently there are over 1300 "dieties" on the Roll of Urzed, though most are regarded as being lesser or minor entries. Nevertheless, their Divine Magic works, though only for some Aranashi. In reality it is a form of Adeptology (the Adept Priest variety), which the Aranashi carry the potential for in their blood. The priests of the Urzadrek are collectively called Urzali (ER-ZAH-lee), represent all of the "dieties" of the Urzed, maintain the shrines of the religion, and are responsible for some culturally protected duties, most signficantly funerary rites. Worship of the Urzed is required of all citizens of the Zadeshi Empire, and the Urzali have a powerful cultural niche protected by both law and tradition. The perks of the Unzari are both minor and major in their breadth. For example, cranial hair is of major significance in the Zadeshi culture as different patterns shaved into the hair represent various castes, with only members of the Empirial family going completely bald; though odd by outsider standards this is taken so seriously that those who are naturally bald must wear wigs in the appropriate fashion or more rarely have their heads tattooed with a symbolic head of hair. However, as a sign of their unearthly status Urzali do not shave their head in any fashion, and in fact in typical Zadeshi fashion have exact measures of how long each rank of priest is allowed to wear their hair, with the most senior allowed to have the shortest (and in a nod to the aged state of most of the elder priests, even be partially bald -- a trait associated with royalty otherwise). Outsiders might find their temporal influence to be more significant (though the average Zadeshi would consider the hair privelege the more remarkable detail); any Urzali past the rank of Olur (OH-lur; essentially neophyte) can give orders to members of any caste other than the royal caste and expect to be obeyed. The oldest, wisest, most highly ranked, called Enza, can give orders to members of the royal caste that do not actually rule a Vazura (VAH-zer-uh; roughly equivalent to being a Mayor of a large city or Governor of a small state). Thurisis is a junior Anilzo (ah-NILL-zoe) in the Urzedarek, a middle rank with traditionally excellent opportunities for advancement, and is young for her status at only 22. Part of the ongoing missionary efforts to convert Undari in the annexed nations of Arvanis, Akosa, and Famor, Thursis has graduated in her standing to the point that she is entrusted to journey among the populace seeking converts and to do good works that show the truth and strength of the Urzed worship. Thus far her successes have been from the confines of a Anurzedak (AHN-ER-zeh-DOCK), the step-sided ziggurats the Urzali erect in honor of their "dieties", and Thursis is a little apprehensive, but is sure that her faith will guide her. To further her ability to accomplish this task she has been studying Undari for a few years and can get by passibly in all major dialects, though she never speaks it if she doesnt have to as she believes it to be a mongrelization of true Zadeshi, despite the fact that it is just a related language. |
