Personality: Repay a life debt to Koros
Quote:"Se Koros lo desidera, sarÓ fatto. Altrimenti, orina fuori" (roughly translated: "If Koros wishes it, it will be done. Otherwise, piss off.")
Background: Ergal was a soldier in the army of Valenezia. His squad had been cut off and surrounded by the Kor-Hus, their horses fallen after a furious four hour chase during a sortie that was ambushed. The remaining twelve Valenezian were back to back in a circle at the end, holding off the approaching Kor and were surely doomed, when a warrior emerged from a gully and rushed a line of thirty two Kor as they readied for the final kill of Ergal and his hard-pressed countrymen. Laying about with a sword that was a veritable blur of twisted space, the fearsomely hooded warrior carved his way through the Kor, and inspired the exhausted cavalry men to a final rally. Pressing outward they hit the Kor from the opposite direction, and between turned the tide. The surviving Kor fled leaving nine remaining cavalry men and the hooded stranger with the fell blade.

The stranger was revealed to be the warrior Koros, a Lanolyan who had been living abroad but was returning after hearing of the ongoing war. Koros was a fearsome warrior and rose to prominence among the army of Valenezia upon arriving their and establishing his skills. Ergal managed to get himself transferred to Koros' command, motivated by the deep seated belief that he owes the man a life-debt, for Ergal has no doubt he would have died that day in the blasted lands if not for Koros. Several of the other survivors of that squad did the same. Ergal served Koros for the duration of the war, eventually becoming a sub-commander in his own right, leading 50 men and under Koros' direct command.

When the war ended Ergal and two other survivors of the rescured squad (Vobor and Daereg) joined the group that would become the Durodad. Years later Ergal is the last of the three alive and one of only seven remaining Durodad. He is determined to serve Koros until one or the other of them dies, and all else is secondary to that. Ergal has no special hatred for the Kor-vashi -- they are the enemy, but he has a soldiers indifference to that concept -- todays enemy is tomorrows ally and vice versa afterall. But Koros is determined to kill the Kor-Hus until they cease to exist, and seems happy to vent his anger against any other Kor-vashi tribe that comes along as targets of opportunity, so Ergal kills Kor-vashi.
