An auspex is a class of hand-held scanners, with a variety of built in active and passive sensors. They're so simple to use even Astra Militarum troopers can manage it!

When making the Detect (Basic) action, a fighter equipped with an Auspex can Detect Traps (Frag, Gas, and Melta) within 12'', can Detect if a container within 6'' holds loot, and gains a +1 bonus to Detect enemy fighters.
