In the Olde World there are many who seek their fortunes by less than legal means.
For many life isnt about what you can do but what you can get. Such men as these
live in the unpoliced areas of the Empire and other nations, waylaying travelers
and taking what they want by force of arms. Many live in the forests around Mordheim,
and some of the braver groups have decided to seek their fortunes in the evil streets
of the damned city.
Starting Funds
The warband starts with 500 gc to spend as it wishes following unit numbers and
weapons restrictions.
Choice of Warriors
A Olde World Outlaw band must include a minimum of 3 models, and can have a maximum
of 20 models including 5 Heros and 1 leader. A starting warband must be lead by
a Bandit Chief, but should he be killed they may not acquire another; a new leader
will step forth from amongst the members of the band.
Hirelings & Dramatis Personae
The following Hired Swords will work for the Olde World Outlaws:
Of the Dramatis Personae listed in the Mordheim rulebook, none will work for an
Olde World Outlaw band. Of the Dramatis Personae presented on this site the following
will work for an Olde World Outlaw band:
Player created and future supplemental Personae will have to be adjudicated on
a case by case basis as appropriate to their background. In general any even vaguely
wholesome Hired Sword or Dramatis Personae would avoid Olde World Outlaws like
the plague, as they are renowned as thieves, cutthroats, and killers.

Many Outlaws ply their trade in the concealing forests, where their numbers are
concealed and they might escape pursuit or retalliation. As such ranged weapons
fired from tree tops are extremely efficacious and widely employed. Bowmen represent
the best shots amongst the Outlaws.

Many Outlaw bands seem to have one amongst them that is a paragon of human might.
They often fill an important role in the band, as most of the men are rather weedy

Lookouts are young, very old, or just spindly members of the band who do their

and signals to alert their brethren.

often scout ahead of the Outlaw band to find choice targets. They may be Infiltrated

roll a die. High roller places one model first, then placement alternates until
all infiltrators are placed.

Playing an Olde World Outlaw Force
A Olde World Outlaw band has several pros and cons. The primary reason to play
the Olde World Outlaws rather than, say, the very similar Skaven is for their flavor.
They can be used to capture the 'Robin Hood' merry-men-of-the-forest feel or a darker
more cutthroat mood, but are most importantly flexible and fun. With cheap but underskilled
members, it is a very low risk, high gain force early on.
Pros of the Olde World Outlaw force
-
Good range of equipment choices.
-
Fair mix of HtH and Ranged.
-
Troops have balanced equipment options.
-
Can grow quite large.
Cons of the Olde World Outlaw force
-
Relatively weak.
-
No fancy equipment options.
-
No Magic.
-
Lightly armored.
-
Limited Henchmen. The Lookouts are useful though unskilled, but the Outlaws are
totally average.
The Method behind the Madness
I think the Olde World Outlaws represent a very flexible force, with a fast moving
and flexible feel to them. To counteract the drabness of the bulk of the Henchmen,
the Heros have excellent Skill options. The force has got a little bit of everything,
and should be able to hold their own against more specialized opponents. They play
out a little differently than most of the forces, and provide an interesting challenge
both to players and modelers. I personally think a mix of Brettonian Squires with
Bows, Bowmen, Men at arms with Spears, Imperial Archers, and some of the Wood Elves
without visible ears would make perfect choices. Additionally, The Bertand le Brigand
and Hugo Le Petit models would make a perfect fit for a Robin Hood-esque band.
