Pursuing Daile
|
The Hunters pursuit of Daile was delayed a few minutes by the need to destroy the
remaining dozen zombies, and then pacifying the four civilian members of the Zombie
Bus movie crew. Suprisingly, one of the bimbettes, Dorothy, proved herself
to be more than she seemed, streaking into the mosh pit of zombies chomping on Jonas,
kicking a zombie through the air with a flying jump kick that crushed the zombie's
chest and ribs.
|
|
|
Jon and Jonas spun a bullshit "virus outbreak" story for the civilians, collected
their keys (they left them with their cell phones as it was determined that there
was no signal in the remote environs), and left Dorothy in charge.
|
That settled, the Hunters took up the cold trail to pursue Daile into the abandoned
factory. As the Hunters hashed out a quick plan of action, Miles pointed out that
they were on a fact finding mission, and that Zombie Daile had not been sanctioned
and they had not yet witnessed any actual Accords violations...in short, they may
have jumped the gun and were on shaky ground.
|
His legal opinion was that they couldn't just terminate Daile unless the situation
escalated into a Sanctionable situation. Miles urged the group to instead apprehend
Daile and turn her over to Section M for arbitration.
|
Ebon suggested using the civilians as bait, in the hopes that Daile would kill them
to make more zombies with and thus provide a clear cut violation allowing the Hunters
to whack her, but the other Hunters shot that down.
|
For his part, Jon was of the opinion that he could just kill her on general principle
and not worry about whether the group could collect a bounty for it; to his way
of thinking she deserved to die for trucking in death magics and attacking him earlier
and the Accords don't protect supernaturals from other supernaturals so long as
they keep it on the low down and avoid collateral damage. Ebon and Jonas were on
board for that.
|
Nevertheless, though it was not a popular position with the rest of the group whose
blood was up, Miles persisted and pointed out that if they instead apprehended Daile
they would at a minimum get a finders fee and possibly also a dossier creation bonus
if Zombie Daile was heretofore unknown to Section M. And if it turned out there
was already a bounty on her, they'd collect that too; bounties are generally paid
out dead or alive.
|
But if they killed Daile and it later turned out that they were in the wrong not
only would they have to deal with the possible repurcussions but they also likely
wouldn't get paid. Also, killing a necromancer isn't always smart as sometimes they
just come back stronger. Jonas at least was swayed by the money argument.
|
As the discussion was winding down and the Hunters were nearing the front of the
abandoned factory, they heard shots fired from within and the group sprung into
action. Quickly infiltrating the dilapidated structure, they easily found Zombie
Daile caged in the back corner of an empty office and being shot at by the disgraced
cop
Jimmy Hunt.
|
Jonas and Ebon took up positions to offer covering fire if it proved necessary,
while Miles entered the room and attempted to defuse the situation by appealing
to Jimmy's sense of lawfulness.
|
However, Daile used the opportunity to viciously
attack Jimmy with a spell while his back was turned to her, and the situation got
ugly. In the end Zombie Daile was shot nearly to death by Jimmy Hunt, but after
she lost consciousness Jonas and Miles used various skills and abilities to stabilize
her condition and keep her from death's door.

GMs Note: Another strong session. We got off to a bang, finishing up the
combat from the first session. WilyQ, the player of Miles, was still determined
to play HTBM seriously. Miles reasserted the premise and in-game conception of the
Accords and what the Hunters could and could not do legitimately.
|
However, while the intent was good, the execution was rough. I had to pause the
game for a moment to reenforce the setting's premises. After that the players were
less fixated on violence, and it allowed Miles to seek a non-lethal outcome.
|
The main thing to come out of this session is that Jon re-asserted himself as the
tactical leader of the group again, strengthening his first session performance
in this area, while Miles established himself firmly as the Jiminy Cricket of the
group, protecting the Hunters from themselves and keeping them on the rails.
|
Ebon was consistent with his first session portrayal, and firmly established himself
as the scout / skirmisher of the group. The character worked as intended.
|
Jonas had a hard time of it all around. His most significant contribution was in
"tanking" damage for the group, though given the durability of all the characters
this is a relative thing. The groups consensus was that they liked the idea of Jonas
as the team brick. This led us to make a few tweaks to the character using the XP
from the first two sessions...which turned out to be successful thus far.

XP Awarded: the players tied on a vote for the players of Jon and Miles for
Most Valuable Player, and I again decided to be generous and grant both characters
a point.
- Ebon: 4
- Jon: 4 + 1 MVP
- Miles: 3 + 1 MVP
- Jonas: 4
