A former PRIMUS R&D tech, Pete Mazza
was tired of being a nobody so he copied
the plans to the captured Ankylosaur armor
and built a version for himself, plus some
bits from other suits he had studied or
salvaged bits from. |
|
Quitting his job, he traveled to California
to pursue reports of the power armored villainess
Mantara robbing pleasure cruises in the
San Diego area. Suiting up for action for
the first time, he laid a trap for her by
surveilling cruises in the bay until she
struck one. Catching the pirate unawares
he was able to defeat her, and turned her
over to authorities after swiping some bits
from her armor suit.
|
|
Deciding he liked San Diego, Pete found
a nice semi-secluded home to rent in the
hills near Balboa Park, and settled in to
integrate new capabilities based upon Mantara's
suit into his armor.

"This baby sells itself! It's got a
little bit of everything!" |
|
A few weeks later, his improvements complete,
he was puttering around in the basement
he was converting into a small lab when
he heard an superbattle alert on the local
news. There were reports of VIPER battling
an unknown super on the USD campus. Consulting
a local map he realized that this was relatively
nearby. If he hustled, he might get there
in time to do some good!
|
|
Hustling to the scene, he arrived in time
to save the "unknown super", who turned
out to be Apex,
from capture and to get in some parting
shots as a VIPER 8 Team plus Ogre and Lazer
made their escape. Prior to the wrongdoers
fleeing, the two heroes were making an impression
of themselves, Apex going toe to toe with
Ogre, and Makeshift shooting everthing that
moved and trading shots with Lazer.
|
|
In the aftermath the two rookie heroes exchanged
information and resolved to "do it again
sometime". In the weeks to follow the duo
independently investigated clues they had
gathered from VIPER's attack and periodically
shared their findings with each other.

|
Meanwhile in the media there was speculation
on whether San Diego had gained a pair of
new superheroes or if they were just passing
through. When both Makeshift and Apex appeared
several weeks later at the AEGIS trials,
rumors began to fly that they were in San
Diego to stay. Many local hero afficiandos
are ecstatic to have some fresh talent in
the area, and there has been a fair amount
of buzz on various internet message forums
about them. Only time will tell if the rookie
heroes live up to the expectations or not.
