| Karestal (which is an assumed name) presented himself as a priest of Mherazan, a God of Death (of the natural when-its-your-turn sort) and various other things; in many ways a god of Fate by another name. However in reality he was a priest of a sect that worships Tzoruul in the aspect of a benign trickster that uses knowledge gained on the sly to aid others without their knowing they have in fact been aided, called the Friends in Shadow. | |||
| Karestal introduced himself to the group when he saved them from a difficult spot in Centhaus, as a previous ally turned out posses of ravening worshipers of Verinc to hunt down the heroes due to Saemund spurning her attentions and her god. After that he slowly won the trust of the group by constantly providing help, healing, sound guidance, wisdom, and esoteric knowledge otherwise beyond their grasp with his magic. | |||
| When the Arrows had finally hunted down and killed Ketkis after a long and difficult travail, Karestal volunteered to take the artifact of Tzoruul Ketkis had stolen from Zerlaaga, so that his priesthood (which he still presented as that of Mherazen) could hide and ward the device to keep it out of the hands of others like Ketkis. | |||
| In due course, Karestal was given the artifact and departed a very happy man, having saved a relic of his god from possible destruction or misuse in the hands of evil men such as Ketkis. The Arrows never suspected that Karestal was anything other than what he claimed to be, and thus he was true to his sect's beliefs and modus operandi. | |||
