STATUS: ON HIATUS: Due to a general
disagreement regarding his methods and lack of people skills, Hype has left
the group he himself co-founded and is no longer an active member. |
 |
|
The most experienced member of the team thus far aside from John Wrath, Hype
has been a "professional superhero" since he turned 18. He served with a
large team, called NewGen, active in the south for a number of years until
it disbanded recently. |
|
Coming to Millennium City Hype fought several villains teamed up with
Gravitic, Agent X, and War-Man and spurred the formal founding of the
Millennial Men, even though he had not worked with most of the members of
the group. In conjunction with Gravitic he extended an open invitation to
the other heroes listed herein, and also came up with the name. |
|
Later, after getting retired from PRIMUS, John Wrath showed up while the
heroes pursued Papa Zombie; the old warhorse and Hype did not hit it off,
and the easily exasperated Hype departed. |
|
Hype pays his bills by endorsing NAR-COLA ("It lives up to its HYPE, just
like me!") and has a phone service (1-888-GET-HYPE) so that he can be
contacted by those who need his assistance. |
|
"GAH!DoIhavetodoeverythingmyself?!?" |
|
Hype spends about 23 hours a day patrolling the city nonstop, and handles a
lot of minor crimes before anyone else even knows that there is a situation. |
|
Hype is a Speedster/Light Brick with a lot of speed tricks, backed up by
high DEX and SPD. However while he was an incredibly powerful combatant,
Hype was generally not much help outside of combat -- he has very few
utility powers and fewer skills. |
|
In play Hype was like a powder keg ready to explode, a veritable loose
cannon. He mowed thru villains like a scythe, bounced around agitatedly, was
seemingly everywhere all at once, and was seriously in need of switching to
decaff. Somewhat darker than some of the other heroes, Hype verged into mild
vigilante territory at times; he was not above taking the law into his own
hands or acting on impulse. While he definitely contributed to the groups'
power level, and his aggressive attitude was crucial in the formal founding
of the team, his confrontational personality and general abrasiveness were
not conducive to the team's overall benefit in the long term. |
|
Hype was played by the regular GM while another player ran a story arc,
effectively replacing ROOK on the active line up. When the story arc was
over, in game ROOK returned right about the time Hype departed the line-up.
The two characters fill almost exactly the same niche, but with
personalities on opposite ends of the spectrum, so it is probably
fortuitous that the two never served concurrently. |
