LOOSE ENDS & PLOT THREADS
There were a few loose ends floating here and there that offer opportunities for future adventures.
LORD ARCANE, INCANTRIX, and the ARTIFACT The Mill Men never did figure out what was going on with the strange mud that was being stolen from the biochemical corporations or the magical artifact that Lord Arcane said had been lost in the mud for a very long time. He asked them to keep Incantrix from getting it, but they definitely failed that task.
I was planning on reintroducing this arc via Alliage and Legend as they are the mystically oriented members of the Millennial Men, but had not yet started working this in when play stopped.
SECT There was a running subplot of a hideous bug-man that was killing drug dealers around Millennial City. There was constant speculation and allegations that CHITIN and this killer were one and the same, and on several occassions criminal cartels involved with the drug trade sent people after Chitin.
The intention was for Chitin to investigate the situation and have an interesting sub adventure, eventually clearing his name. In reality this was being done by another superhuman that turns into a bug-like form called Sect. FYI, the write up was designed to be competitive to Chitin in the early days of the campaign and would need to be powered up a bit to deal with Chitin in his final state.
Of course the player of Chitin once again disappointed and totally ignored the repeated hooks.
CHEMO / Trainer Dan The Mill Men never bothered investigating who was behind the GYX-5 bio tech robberies. If they had it eventually would have led back to a mysterious purveyor of drugs and chemical enhancements known as CHEMO, who also maintains several identities including the body building supplement maven known as Trainer Dan.
Later, as the campaign ended we were introducing an outbreak of super-drug using street punks and criminals. Combined with the escaped Arena fighters, there was an extreme increase in powered street crime. This was a calculated plot element that served many purposes.
The MOD Whatever did happen to the Mod? Nobody ever bothered to look into it. Pretty heroic, eh?
I was working Mod back in to circulation via the Arena subplot (see below) that was broken up while the Mill Men were away in the Hegemony and Chantal dimensions. When PRIMUS rumbled the ARENA, an amnesiac and disoriented Mod was among the stable of fighters that were taken into custody. He had no recollection of how he got there, or who he was; Dr. Silverback had started him on treatments to restore his memory.
The Green Knight What was up with the strange Green Knight robots? Was the first one that adventured with the Mill Men a few times a real person or was it to a robot? The Mill Men never followed up on this, but the story can be found in the Green Knight's background here.
The FIXXXER John Wrath swore to one day "Fix the Fixxxer!".
ENFORCERS Inc The Mill Men have run afoul of super-muscle for hire contracted out by ENFORCERS Inc on several occasions. From Wu and the gang, to Highrise and Hypersonique, to Richochet and the T.H.U.G.s. Some superheroes might actually have bothered to look into it.
The ENFORCERS Inc angle was going to play an even bigger role in Arc 7 in two seemingly unrelated vectors. In the Rook / Blackjack adventure the mafioso coming after the pair of them were going to contract the services of the Enforcers to do the actual work.
Some ENFORCERS were also involved in the Stitch subplot (see below).
I was also going to revisit the T.H.U.G. subplot -- I was angling for the T.H.U.G.s to represent a very real threat to superhuman heroes. If left unchecked Dr. Robert Zuckert would have mass produced an army of variants. Rook, War-Man, and Alliage have already seen the T.H.U.G.E.E. and T.H.U.G.B.E. variants and got beat up pretty soundly fighting them.
AGENT X Whatever happened to the mysterious Agent X? The Mill Men didn't investigate, but he eventually discovered that it was VIPER that had created him, and big surprise was also trying to recapture him. He stopped running and started fighting back, eventually partnering with the superhumanly strong VIPER hunter known as Magnitude and occassionally the duo known as Gunman and Chrysalis.
The intention was to bring Agent X back into circulation as an NPC ally for the Turbofist & Wrath vs VIPER adventure.
Juicers Turbofist encountered some street thugs using some kind of drug that gave them super powers. This was the first direct contact with some of the people using CHEMO's treatments / supplements.
The ARENA We were in the process of working in a story element that was more street level, a traveling underground pit fighting racket with powered fighters. Some of the fighters were willing participants, in it for the money, but many of the "house" stable were victims of kidnapping and sophisticated memory wiping.
While the Mill Men were away for 38 days in the Hegemony and Chantal dimensions, PRIMUS executed a major sting operation that Mayte Sanchez had been working on for months (despite John Wrath's allegations that she wasn't doing anything other than smiling for new cameras). Sanchez and her PRIMUS agents, with the assistance of Major Savage and his ICARUS squad and Major Showdown with some of the HERO Net people, located the current location of the Arena and hit it hard.
Many of the superhuman fighters and ringleaders of the Arena got away, but a fair number of fighters and organizers were taken into custody. Many of the fighters were soon revealed to be victims rather than criminal participants, and Dr. Silverback was consulted to develop a treatment to reverse the memory loss and psychological conditioning they had been subjected to. Dr. Silverback conjectured that the leaders of the Arena must have access to either a powerful mentalist or extremely sophisticated technology.
However, a number of low level superhumans that escaped from the Arena during the raid are loose in the greater Mill City. Some are content to hide out, beat feet, try to recall and rejoin their previous existance, etc -- but some are up to no good. Many of the no-gooders ended up bolstering the ranks of gangs and similar, and there was an upswing of powered street crime when the campaign stopped. The MC8, Nightwind, Hype, and Savage's ICARUS (and other less high profile local heroes) had been handling it so far, but part of this was going to play into the Wrath / Turbofist adventure, as well as the CHEMO / TRAINER DAN subplot.
Mr. Stitch A new mover has appeared in the Criminal World; a shadowy villain calling himself Mr, Stitch is trying to take over the procurement / sex trade business.
Competition is stiff however, and the Tierney crime family has brought in some outside help to fight to maintain their hold on the industry. The dangerous superhuman known as Silvera is the primary talent brought in by the family. He's backed up by a collection of lesser superhumans and operators.
However, Stitch appears to have acquired the services of Enforcers Inc. and isnt going down without a fight. Several brutal but mostly on the low down battles have been waged in the shadows. Hype and Nightwind, apparently coming at it from different directions, broke up one of them that spilled out into the public arena last week. Several minions were arrested, but the movers and shakers all got away.
In reality Mr. Stitch is a Demon Bound named Gregory Illanerelli that was a very minor part of the Philadelphia Illianerelli crime family before becoming a DEMON cultist. Illanerelli / Mr. Stitch is really a catspaw working for the Morbane Sebastian Serrazene, who is part of a DEMON plot to gain control of the city's sex trade.
In addition to providing a welcome source of income to DEMON, it is also a great way to gain leverage and blackmail material on those who use such services, can be a source of new recruits, and also a handy source of sacrifices when needed.
Dash Ransom The mansion home of actor Dash Ransom (the secret identity of the superhero Gravitic) in Grosspointe was destroyed by what surveyors determined to be a "massive gravitational flux". There was no sign of the well known actor and he is currently assumed to be missing. The Police investigation has made no progress.
