Larger towns and cities of the Old World often support an Executioner to take care of the unpleasant task of dispatching convicted criminals from this mortal coil. Executioners are typically large and strong sorts; rippling, intimidating physiques are considered a big plus as a qualification. Futher, they tend to wield large, frightening looking weapons, although some Executioners are masters of the hangman's noose or some other more esoteric means of termination. Occassionally an Executioner will seek to make a little extra coin on the side by adventuring between gigs, or else be between jobs and thus find themselves earning a living in some less specialized role.
